Accenture Caps Monthly Claude Funding at $29 Per Employee

Effective October 1, Accenture will centrally fund only $29 a month per employee on Claude, according to an internal memo reported by 404 Media. Costs are consumption-based: once a worker burns through the $29, they have to find a specific project or team willing to pay for the rest.

Before the cap, some employees had been spending as much as $1,000 monthly. One worker's Claude access was revoked altogether.

"Honestly, this is disappointing," one employee told 404 Media, describing extensive use of Claude Code to build an AI accelerator used by multiple clients. Another asked, "How can I speed up the upgrade to a premium account? This obviously has a significant impact on project costs."

The memo itself told staff that "Claude Enterprise will continue to be available based on role and business need," and that "License allocations are reviewed periodically, and access may be reassessed based on business priorities." An Accenture spokesperson said: "Our approach today is to provide the right tool for the right work, and we continue to invest in AI capabilities, skills and enablement."

The irony is loud. Accenture, which has encouraged its clients to invest heavily in AI, is now metering what its own engineers can spend on it. The story lands in a thick run of enterprise AI cost and governance items on our tracker this month.
