AI agent blamed for deleting Swedish TV4 reality season

An AI agent given access to the production company's servers deleted the entire upcoming season of 'The Challenge Sverige' weeks before its November 22 premiere on Sweden's TV4, Futurism reported, citing the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. The raw footage survived. The cut did not.

TV4 program director Mia Lindqvist put the fault not on the model itself but on the production company Mastiff's infrastructure. 'In this case, the big problem is that their backup didn't work and that means they have to recut everything from scratch,' she said. She framed the incident as 'human factor' and 'not AI,' pushing back on the idea that the agent acted independently.

The show's host, Ahmed Behran, took it with the register you would expect. 'Is it true?! I knew AI would be the death of me, this is the beginning,' he told the newspaper, laughing.

TV4 confirmed the premiere has been pushed to next year. Hundreds of staff now have to rebuild roughly a hundred days of editing work from the surviving raw material. Lindqvist also noted that 'most production companies use AI in their work processes these days, but that's a completely different matter,' leaving open exactly what the agent was doing on Mastiff's servers before the deletion.
