Anthropic Buys One-Person Startup Mithril Medicine and Opens Claude Drug Pipeline With Six Pharma Partners

Anthropic acquired Mithril Medicine, a single-employee rare-disease biotech founded by Cody Tranbarger, who used Claude to coordinate 11 external labs and advance a muscular dystrophy candidate to promising mouse results in under 18 months — an internal lead that could enter human trials by late 2028. Alongside the acquisition, Anthropic announced Claude-powered drug-discovery partnerships with Bristol Myers Squibb, Generate Biomedicines, BigHat Biosciences, Divergence Labs, Enveda and The Column Group, spanning CAR-T enhancement, antibody fragments, solid tumors and food allergies.
