Anthropic Expands GSA Deal, 40% Claude Discount for Government

Anthropic has broadened its General Services Administration agreement so that a 40% discount now applies to Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API across every channel the government buys through, including Bedrock and Vertex AI. The discounts are "estimated to save the government $1 billion," Anthropic said in its announcement, and the price extends to state, local, tribal and territorial governments as well as federal buyers.

The structure is permissive by federal-contracting standards. "Agencies are not bound by a minimum spend commitment and will be able to pay for the usage they consume," the company wrote.

Anthropic paired the pricing move with a usage snapshot: roughly 500 US federal, state and local government organizations now use Claude, weekly Claude for Government active users are up about eightfold since February, and federal civilian-agency usage has grown about 20-fold in a year. To make the case, Anthropic surfaced a Utah pilot in which "80% had a working environment within 30 minutes, 71% reported saving 20+ hours by the end of the four-week pilot" across 34 developers in 10 state agencies, and one state CIO who said their team was able to "respond to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes vs. the usual 2-3 days thanks to Claude."
