Anthropic has paused the free year of Claude Team and the $1,000 in API credits inside its Claude Startups program, three days after expanding the offer on October 6, Forbes reported. Applications ran at 21 times the pace of the prior five months in the first 48 hours.
"We didn't anticipate the demand for the Claude Startups program," Anthropic's Sarah Wolf said on X. "In the first 48 hours of the program, we received 21x the number of applications compared to the last 5 months it's been live. We let way too many people in this time."
The Claude account said the program drew "hundreds of thousands of applicants" and that the team is "re-reviewing applications" after it "underestimated demand for the program." Benefits already claimed stay with their accounts.
The Startup Stack, which the company values at partner discounts up to $45,000, and Applied AI office hours remain in place.
