The unusual pitch: buyers can link multiple Mac Studios together into a single, more capable system for running large frontier AI models. That is a business and developer play, not a consumer one. At a June event Apple called "Business at the Park," executives from Ford, Disney and Anthropic showed up, and the Mac mini was described as the "darling" of the room.
The problem, according to the report: Apple did not possess an engineering team dedicated to business customers or staff focused on developer relations, and lacked an enterprise AI strategy. Enterprise buyers asking for access to Private Cloud Compute were turned down. Apple is instead leaning on partners WebAI and Mount Thor to supply AI tooling.
The surge has also collided with the global memory shortage, leaving many Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations out of stock for months and sending some buyers to Nvidia's DGX Spark instead.
