Belgium Charges Chinese-Belgian Ex-Belgan Executive With Passing GaN Chip Secrets to Beijing

Belgian prosecutors said Sept 7 they arrested a 52-year-old Chinese-Belgian dual national at Brussels Zaventem airport in May as he was about to board a Beijing flight. He held a senior research role at Belgan, a bankrupt Belgian gallium-nitride semiconductor maker, while simultaneously serving as director of Gankool, a Chinese GaN startup founded months after he joined Belgan and financed by a Chinese investment fund. He is charged with espionage, criminal organization, misuse of company assets and unlawful disclosure of corporate secrets; a second suspect remains at large.
