Two-year-old Celero Communications has raised $275 million at a valuation above $3 billion, Bloomberg reported, pulling the Irvine, California chip startup's total capital to $415 million. The round was co-led by Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners and Alphabet's CapitalG, with existing investors Sutter Hill Ventures and Maverick Silicon also participating.

Celero builds coherent digital signal processors "designed to speed up data transmission for artificial intelligence systems over fiber optic cables," in Bloomberg's description. The chips are pitched at knitting GPU racks inside a facility together and connecting nearby data centers into a single larger AI cluster. The company has said it validated the industry's first 2nm coherent DSP silicon.
