China's Foreign Ministry Slams Amodei's 'Fearmongering' AI Pacing Call in First Official Reply

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Monday hit back at Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's Saturday essay urging the US to continue chip and equipment export controls against China. 'Fearmongering, confrontation and vicious competition will only disrupt the process of global AI governance and serve the interests of no one,' Guo said, calling instead for 'open, inclusive, universally beneficial and ethical' AI. State-run Global Times separately accused Amodei of engineering a 'silent AI Cold War' against China.
