Chrome's 'Suggested by Gemini' autofill pulls from Gmail

TL;DR

  • Chrome's new 'Suggested by Gemini' autofill will pull flight confirmation numbers, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card numbers from a user's Gmail.
  • The feature extends Google's Personal Intelligence program and is rolling out first to US users on desktop and on the iOS and Android Gemini in Chrome apps.
  • Users can disable enhanced autofill or remove individual suggestions in Chrome settings; Google says sensitive data is encrypted.

Chrome's autofill dropdown will now offer suggestions pulled directly from a user's Gmail inbox: flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking information, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card numbers. TechCrunch reports that Google announced the feature on Wednesday as an expansion of its Personal Intelligence program, the layer that already lets Gemini read across connected Google apps.

Eligible users will see a new "Suggested by Gemini" option when they tap into a form field.

"As with other Personalized Intelligence features, users can decide whether or not to enable enhanced autofill from their Chrome settings. Sensitive data is encrypted, Google notes," the TechCrunch write-up says. 9to5Google adds that individual suggestions can be removed one at a time, or the feature disabled entirely from Chrome Settings.

The rollout is US-only to start, covering the desktop browser and the Gemini in Chrome apps on iOS and Android. Two of the AI experts we track in our Who's Who directory shared the story the day it ran.
