FT: Chinese Tech Firms Bought 1M+ Nvidia RTX Pro 6000D and 5000 Chips in 2026 for Basic AI Workloads

The Financial Times reports Chinese groups bought more than 1 million Nvidia gaming and workstation chips this year — mostly RTX Pro 6000D and RTX Pro 5000 — to cover an AI compute shortfall. Industry sources peg China's domestic AI chip supply at ~3.5M units in 2026 against demand of 5M+, with Alibaba, ByteDance and Tencent driving the buying as combined capex more than doubles to ~Rmb700B ($104B).
