  • G42 subsidiaries Khazna Data Centers and Core42 signed MoUs on 22 October with Greece's Copelouzos Group to explore an 'AI factory', with location, capacity, financing and opening date all still unresolved.
  • Khazna would lead the physical data center build while Core42 would supply the cloud and AI compute layer, targeting banking, telecoms, shipping and government customers.
  • The pact sits inside a wider UAE-Greece package: 18 agreements totalling €12.75 billion signed in Athens during a visit led by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade.

Abu Dhabi's G42 said on 22 October it signed a set of memoranda of understanding with Greek conglomerate Copelouzos Group to explore building an "AI factory" in Greece. Location, capacity, financing and opening date are all unresolved.

Under the preliminary agreements reported by Datacenter Dynamics, G42 subsidiary Khazna Data Centers would lead the physical data center build, while sister company Core42 would supply the cloud and AI compute layer. The pitched customer base is banking, telecoms, shipping and government.

"Our partnership with G42 brings state-of-the-art, world-class AI infrastructure to Greece and strengthens the country's position as a strategic digital and energy hub in Southeast Europe," said Christos Copelouzos, CEO of Copelouzos Group. He added that the two sides aim to "build an AI factory that will support the digital transformation of the Greek economy, attract new investment and create highly skilled jobs."

The MoUs were signed in Athens during an official visit led by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attending. G42 and five of its portfolio companies were part of 18 agreements between the UAE and Greece totalling €12.75 billion, with Abu Dhabi separately flagging a further €15 billion of planned investment in the country.
