General Compute Raises $100M Series A at $800M on Alt Silicon
TL;DR
- General Compute closed a $100M Series A led by Blackbird and Abstract at an $800M post-money valuation, up from $60M in May.
- A single customer paying $100M in annual recurring revenue anchored the round, which CEO Finn Puklowski said rebuts fears of neocloud collapse.
- It runs non-Nvidia inference on SambaNova, Positron and Cerebras silicon from leased sites, with 200MW of power and 75MW planned for 2027.
General Compute closed a $100 million Series A at an $800 million post-money valuation, TechCrunch reports, a sharp step up from the $60 million mark it carried out of a May seed round.
CEO and co-founder Finn Puklowski called the neocloud-collapse narrative "massively overstated," and told the outlet the round was unlocked by a single customer paying $100 million in annual recurring revenue. General Compute sells bare metal to developer-facing inference clouds, running chips from SambaNova, Positron and Cerebras rather than Nvidia, and has secured $400 million in new silicon from SambaNova.
Instead of building its own data centers, the company leases space inside operator sites, including converted bitcoin-mining facilities, with access to 200 megawatts of power and plans to deploy 75 megawatts in 2027.
SambaNova CEO Rodrigo Liang framed the test bluntly: "Everyone in this market is selling speed. The real question is whether you can make money doing it." Blackbird principal James Palmer, who co-led the round with Abstract Ventures, said the company gives partners "bare metal" to "navigate the complexity of the physical world."
TechCrunch does not name the $100 million anchor customer.
