GenRobot AI Discloses $100M Series A+ for Robot Training Data

TL;DR

  • GenRobot AI disclosed a $100 million Series A+ that closed in the third quarter, with SAIC Motor, Baidu, Eastworlds, Shoucheng Holdings and Galaxy General Robotics as strategic backers.
  • The Beijing company sells rigs that capture human demonstrations and a Matrix platform that synchronizes, cleans and labels the recordings for robot developers.
  • GenRobot claims over one million hours of data, more than 30 AI-company partners, and an open-source embodied-AI dataset downloaded over a million times monthly.

GenRobot AI, a Beijing company providing data infrastructure for robot development, disclosed a $100 million Series A+ on November 2, TechNode reported. The round closed in the third quarter.

The cheque is unusually broad for a data company. SAIC Motor, Baidu, Malaysia's Eastworlds, Shoucheng Holdings and Galaxy General Robotics came in on the strategic side; GL Ventures, CITIC Goldstone, CCB International and Huatai Zijin filled out the financial tranche.

The product is less flashy than the robots it serves. GenRobot sells rigs that record "visual information together with hand and body movements" from human demonstrators across household, manufacturing and logistics tasks. A Matrix platform then "synchronizes, cleans, and labels those recordings, providing robot developers with data for training and evaluation."

The company says it has partnered with more than 30 AI companies, holds over one million hours of data, and earlier this year released an open-source dataset of more than 13,000 hours of "bodiless embodied-AI data" with monthly downloads above one million.
