Google Pics ships GA as a Workspace-native AI image editor

Google Pics went general availability on September 1, arriving as a Workspace-native image editor that opens as an overlay when a user clicks an image inside a Google Docs or Slides file, and as a standalone tool at pics.new. 9to5Google reports it supports precise, object-based image editing, editing and translation of text baked into images, cropping for web, social, print and digital formats, upscaling to 2K or 4K, and shareable collaborative sessions with reversible batch changes.
The launch follows an announcement at I/O 2026 in May. An update in the coming weeks will extend editing to images uploaded to Google Drive; imports currently come from a user's computer, Google Drive or Google Photos.
Google frames the pitch bluntly in the announcement copy: "Pics eliminates the frustration of wrangling pixels and feeling like you need to be a graphic designer to deliver a great image."
Access is bundled into Google AI Pro and Ultra personal plans, Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education.
