Interconnects rolls out open-model dashboard tracking 267 labs

The Open Models Dashboard that Interconnects and Project VAIL launched on August 3, 2026 tracks daily-updated Hugging Face downloads and derivative-model counts for open-weight LLMs, and "breaks download and derivative-model counts down by geography and lab" so readers can see which regions and organizations are pulling ahead.

The pitch is workflow consolidation. "Tracking open-model adoption previously required stitching together Hugging Face download counts, OpenRouter usage, and eval scores from separate sites," the launch write-up says. The paired Artifacts Hub sits next to the dashboard as a curated view of 794 models from 267 organizations across 23 monthly batches, joining Hugging Face metadata with benchmark scores from Artificial Analysis and inference-token counts from OpenRouter.

The regional cut is the pointed part. The dashboard groups 48 tracked open-weight model families by the releasing organization's region, with proprietary and API-only models excluded, and reports daily downloads split across USA, China, and EU. Across a broader set of 1,827 tracked models, cumulative downloads stood at 5.5B as of August 2026.
