MapQuest Adds Crowdsourced Surveillance Layer Mapping Flock and 10 Other ALPR Vendors

MapQuest shipped an optional Surveillance Layer on Oct 16 that overlays reported outdoor cameras and automated license-plate readers on its consumer map, including devices from Flock Safety, Motorola Vigilant, Genetec, Axis, Axon, Leonardo ELSAG, Neology, Rekor, PlateSmart, Ubicquia, and Verkada — 11 vendors in total. Locations are crowdsourced from users, sitting alongside existing traffic and incident layers. The release lands amid growing public backlash against Flock, which has been losing municipal contracts.
