North.cloud said it raised a $60 million Series B led by PeakSpan Capital, with Litquidity Ventures, Companyon Ventures, Alpaca, Uncommon Denominator, Gaingels, and Mana Ventures participating. According to the announcement on PR Newswire, the company manages nearly $2 billion in cloud spend, has delivered more than $400 million in customer savings, and reports a 98.8% retention rate.
Matt Biringer, CEO and co-founder, pitched the round as a bet against the dominant FinOps playbook. "The rest of the market still treats optimization as an engineering problem. We think that's the wrong bet: it's a business problem, and it deserves a real fintech platform built on automation and AI, not another tool bolted onto engineering's plate," he said.
The capital funds North v3, which expands the platform to Microsoft Azure and introduces native integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Snowflake. Alongside it, the company is launching TokenFlow, which "brings model usage, attribution, budgets, and financial controls into the same system," plus Autobot, described as an automated commitment laddering engine, and Noros, an AI FinOps agent.
AssemblyAI, one of six named customers alongside Atlan, Tines, SnapLogic, Emplifi, and Imply, carried the customer testimonial. "With North our effective savings rate has held steady at around fifty percent even as our infrastructure has scaled up considerably over the past year," said Ben Gotthold, Head of Inference at AssemblyAI.
PeakSpan Partner Sanket Merchant framed the investor thesis bluntly. "With an estimated 30% of cloud spend wasted, before AI and data costs are even counted, hundreds of billions of dollars that should be fueling growth are lost every year," he said. "Our thesis has always been that the winner will not stop at visibility. It will agentically own the entire lifecycle of spend, and North is already doing this." The release does not break out how much of the managed $2 billion sits in AI tokens versus traditional cloud compute.
