OpenAI Reopens $200 ChatGPT Pro to New Users, Halves API Credits and Kills 5-Hour Cap

OpenAI reopened its $200/month Pro plan to new sign-ups on Sept 29 while cutting API credits per dollar in half, offset by the recent 50% price drop on GPT-6 Sol and Luna. The company also permanently removed the 5-hour usage cap so subscribers can spread their weekly allotment however they want. An OpenAI employee framed the change as nudging users toward pay-per-use over subsidized flat subscriptions.
