OpenAI unveils GPT-6.1 Sol at one-fifth Astra pricing at DevDay

OpenAI used its DevDay conference at Fort Mason in San Francisco on September 29 to launch GPT-6.1 Sol at roughly one-fifth the price of its Astra tier, alongside a slate of new products spanning personal agents, a shared workspace, and a third-party marketplace, per Simon Willison's live blog.

Sol lists at $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 cached, and $10 output, versus Astra's $10, $1 and $50. An Ultrafast delivery option runs at 300 tokens per second, described as eight times standard speed, at six times the standard price. It ships for Astra today and for Sol soon.

Two consumer-facing products anchored the keynote. Dots are personal AI agents with customizable blob avatars that users can name and delegate tasks to via Slack, running on the Astra model and available today for ChatGPT Pro and Enterprise customers. ChatGPT Space, described as 'Notion-style', is a shared collaborative surface with SQLite databases, scheduled tasks, plugin support, and editor permissions.

Third parties get more surface area. A new OpenAI Marketplace launches with Adobe, Canva, Figma, Notion, Salesforce, Vercel and Zendesk. A 'Sign in with ChatGPT' flow lets apps authenticate users with existing ChatGPT tokens, and Plugin Extensions run full applications natively inside ChatGPT. On the developer side, Codex Security Cloud runs automated scanning, deduplication, patching and verification. Willison notes that during an internal sprint, 36% of findings were identified as duplicates and generated patches saw a 1% rollback rate. OpenAI also cited 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users and 8 million ChatGPT Sites hosted, with 70% of OpenAI employees building sites, plus a 35% agent success rate solving 8–16 hour tasks with zero interventions as of July 2026.
