OpenAI wires ChatGPT Voice into Work agent and GPT-6 models

OpenAI rolled out three upgrades to ChatGPT Voice on September 23, tying its conversational mode into the company's newer GPT-6 models, its plugin ecosystem, and its ChatGPT Work agentic layer. Business Insider covered the release, which OpenAI also pushed through its own channels the same day.

According to 9to5Mac, Voice can now be powered by all three of the GPT-6 models the company markets by name: Astra, Sol, and Luna. Sol and Luna, described as the new medium and small intelligence models, were upgraded to the GPT-6 generation the day before. Plugins including email, calendar, and Slack now work with Voice, and Voice now runs inside ChatGPT Work on both web and mobile, described as OpenAI's cloud-connected agentic system.

"We heard you loud and clear," OpenAI wrote on X. Plus and Pro subscribers get the Work tab in the mobile app: they can create a document, draft an email, or summarize Slack messages by talking. Free and Go users, meanwhile, will get to work with plugins and connected apps.

Two of the experts in our tracker circulated the announcement the same day. OpenAI also said voice conversations will have richer text output, and users will be able to switch between text and voice easily.
