OpenAI's Brockman Bankrolls Trump, Calls It a Humanity Play

Greg Brockman, OpenAI's cofounder and president, told Wired that his $25 million check to a pro-Trump super PAC and a matching $25 million to a nonpartisan AI super PAC are, in his framing, in service of humanity.

"We are embarking on a journey to develop this technology that's going to be the most impactful thing humanity has ever created," Brockman told the magazine. "Getting that right and making that benefit everyone, that's the most important thing." He added that "AI is a uniting technology, and can be so much bigger than what divides us today."

Brockman's $25 million to MAGA Inc., which arrived September 12, 2025, was nearly a quarter of the $102 million the pro-Trump vehicle raised in the second half of 2025, according to reporting on FEC filings. He and his wife Anna separately gave $12.5 million each, $25 million together, to Leading the Future, an industry super PAC also backed by Marc Andreessen and Palantir cofounder Joe Lonsdale.

Inside OpenAI, the donations have not landed quietly. Employees have taken concerns to the company's global affairs team and pressed global affairs chief Chris Lehane at a May meeting to clarify OpenAI's relationship with Leading the Future. The company's line is that OpenAI itself has not donated to any super PACs and does not run an employee-funded PAC; the money is Brockman's.

Gizmodo notes that Brockman refused to comment on ICE when asked in the same interview, even as he defended writing the largest single check to Trump's primary fundraising vehicle for the period.
