Pew: AI concern outstrips excitement across 25 countries

"In no country surveyed is the largest share more excited than concerned about the increasing use of AI in daily life." That is the top-line finding from Pew Research Center's 25-country survey, published October 15, 2025.

A median of 34% of adults said they were more concerned than excited about AI's increased use in daily life. A median of 16% said the reverse. The plurality view, at a median of 42%, was to feel equally concerned and excited.

Concern is sharpest in five markets, where roughly half of adults said concern outweighed excitement: the U.S., Italy, Australia, Brazil, and Greece. In 15 of the 25 countries, the largest bloc sits in the ambivalent middle. As one write-up of the survey put it, "in many countries surveyed, a larger share of people are equally excited and concerned about the growing use of AI."

Demographic splits are wide. In Greece, 59% of adults 50 and older said concern outweighed excitement, versus 18% of those 18 to 34. In the UK, 47% of women reported greater concern, compared with 32% of men. In South Korea, 39% of adults with substantial AI awareness said they were more excited, against 19% of those with the least awareness.
