TL;DR
- SignSplit launched with a $400 million seed from blockchain-focused W Group at a $1 billion valuation, its only disclosed backer.
- Contributors digitally sign datasets, likenesses, voices and creative works; AI developers pull from aggregated data pools, with usage frequency driving compensation.
- SignSplit is organized as a Public Benefit Corporation, was founded in 2024, and the launch announcement names no AI developer customers.
SignSplit launched with a $400 million strategic seed round at a $1 billion valuation, all of it from W Group, a coalition of 11 financial technology firms focused on blockchain, SiliconAngle reported.
The pitch, in the company's own phrasing, is that contributors "sign the data and split the value." Users digitally sign datasets, likenesses, voices and creative works; AI developers draw from aggregated "data pools"; a verification layer lets organizations "check if a specific dataset or likeness is signed"; and compensation flows to contributors based on usage frequency. The company is organized as a Public Benefit Corporation and was founded in 2024.
"As AI reaches further into the real world, human knowledge, creativity, skills and identity will become increasingly connected to how technology evolves and interacts with the world around us," co-founder and chief executive Alessandro Monterosso said. "We believe SignSplit and the use of signed data can become the bridge between the two, connecting human contribution with protection, participation and compensation as technology advances."
W Group founder and president Volodymyr Nosov said SignSplit "sets a new standard for the use of individuals' and institutions' data, work and likenesses," adding that "every serious participant in AI and the data economy will come to rely on SignSplit's infrastructure." Research pools target universities and life sciences organizations; companies can also build custom pools for AI training data.
The announcement names no AI developer customers. It lands as one of 11 synthetic-data stories we have tracked over the past 90 days, and by a wide margin the biggest check among them.
