Supabase Raises $150M, Buys Turso for AI Agent Databases
TL;DR
- Supabase raised $150 million led by Singapore's GIC, joined by Alphabet's CapitalG, IronArc and SquarePeg.
- Supabase is acquiring Turso, a SQLite-based database optimized for AI agents, for an undisclosed sum.
- The company also launched Supabase Compute, hosted sandboxes aimed at long-running AI agents.
Supabase has raised $150 million led by Singapore's GIC sovereign wealth fund, with Alphabet's CapitalG, IronArc and SquarePeg joining, and agreed to buy Turso, a SQLite-based database startup aimed at AI agents, for an undisclosed sum, SiliconANGLE reported.
Supabase commercializes the open-source PostgreSQL database and layers on paid features including managed user logins, backups and embedding storage for machine-learning workloads. Turso brings a different shape to the stack: a database "based on SQlite, an open-source relational store with a small hardware footprint" that, per the report, can run on low-power devices such as smartphones and wearables, with added support for embeddings and per-page encryption. Alongside the deal, the company introduced Supabase Compute, a new cloud service providing "hosted sandboxes for long-running AI agents."
The framing is that agents themselves are now the buyers. "Agents are spinning up millions of databases to power the prototypes, explorations, dashboards, and apps they're building," said co-founder and chief executive Paul Copplestone. The piece says the proceeds will fund employee liquidity and new AI-agent capabilities.
SiliconANGLE does not disclose the Turso purchase price, Supabase's new valuation, employee counts, or how Turso's team and its open-source stack will sit inside Supabase. The story lands amid a dense run of AI-infrastructure funding and agent-tooling deals on our tracker this quarter.
