Thoma Bravo's Proofpoint in Advanced Talks to Acquire $4.7B Cybersecurity Firm Varonis

Bloomberg reports that Thoma Bravo-backed Proofpoint is in advanced talks to acquire cloud-data-security vendor Varonis, whose shares jumped ~13% Wednesday on the news to a market value of roughly $5.4B (from ~$4.7B pre-report). Sources say a deal could be announced within weeks though it could still fall apart or draw another bidder. The combination would join two of the industry's more complementary data-protection franchises.
