UBS employees now run more than 12,700 personal AI agents in their daily work, according to the bank's third-quarter earnings announcement, reported by PYMNTS on Oct. 29.

The Swiss bank said it operates 608 live AI use cases in production, an 81% increase year-over-year, with more than 1,090 additional applications in development. Its software developer tooling reaches 18,000 developers. STAAT, a tool deployed for financial advisors, has "generated more than 30 million insights" used in advising clients, UBS said.

"We remain focused on investing in technology, including AI, as well as our capabilities and talent, to position UBS for the future as we enhance our client experience, further strengthen our infrastructure and increase efficiency," the bank said in the release.

PYMNTS placed the UBS disclosure next to its own Intelligence report on enterprise AI in financial services, which found that firms concentrate adoption in back-office functions. Revenue recognition and accounting lead at 65% adoption, with credit risk assessment and sales forecasting tied at 60%. "The industry's most adopted use cases cluster in structured, auditable back-office functions," the report said. Eighty-five percent of surveyed firms plan to increase AI budgets over the next 12 months.

Other banks are moving on parallel tracks. Customers Bank said it piloted an AI-powered process that closed commercial loans in seven days versus a typical 30-to-60-day timeline. Regions Bank warned that cybersecurity and frontier AI costs could add 1.5% to 3.5% to adjusted expenses for 2026.

The release names no executive and does not break out how many of the 608 production use cases are customer-facing versus internal, or how UBS is governing the 12,700 personal agents its workforce has spun up. It arrives in a quarter dense with enterprise AI disclosures across banking and professional services.
