UK British Transport Police LFR Trial Scans 500K+ Faces at London Stations, Nets 1 False Match and 0 Arrests

FOI documents show British Transport Police's six-month live facial recognition trial at London railway stations scanned more than 500,000 faces between February and July 2026, producing one false-positive alert and no direct arrests. The 18 deployments consumed nearly 100 hours of officer time and £320,786 in equipment and staffing. In August the pilot expanded to selected TfL Underground stations, and it will run until November 2026.
