Volkswagen China Secures L3 Autonomous Road-Test Permit in Hefei, Targets 2027 Deliveries Via Carizon JV

Volkswagen's China unit has obtained a Hefei road-test permit for Level 3 autonomous driving and begun real-world data collection, aiming to deliver L3-capable vehicles in H2 2027 via its Carizon JV with Horizon Robotics. The system runs on Horizon's foundation models with the C7H SoC and GAIA world-model data platform and is designed to scale from L3 to L4; VW will showcase it at its first Hefei Technology Day on Oct 28.
