Walmart Debuts Agent Gateway MCP Server and Agent Profiles for Approved AI Shoppers

Walmart president and CEO John Furner used the Masters of Scale Summit on October 21 to launch Agent Gateway, an MCP server that lets approved AI agents search inventory and buy on behalf of customers, plus Agent Profiles that give each agent its own account space, spending caps, and per-purchase approvals. Agents cannot touch payment info or purchase history, non-compliant agents are blocked, and the rollout extends to Sam's Club with no Walmart+ required — a sharp contrast with Amazon, which is actively blocking third-party AI shopping agents.
