TL;DR

  • Xiaomi will publicly debut its full-size, 1.7-meter humanoid robot at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, which runs August 19 to 23.
  • In four-month factory trials, self-tapping nut installation improved from 90.2% to 98% and final-assembly tasks such as folding center-console covers reached 90%.
  • President Lu Weibing said smart manufacturing is the first application, and the robot will not be sold as a standalone product.

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing said the company's full-size humanoid robot will make its public debut at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, which runs August 19 to 23, TechNode reported. He confirmed the plan on Xiaomi's August 18 earnings call.

The robot stands about 1.7 meters. It is built on what Xiaomi calls a universal humanoid framework, covering both the physical structure and the AI model.

The performance numbers come from a four-month internship at Xiaomi's own automobile factory, with results first shared by CEO Lei Jun in July. Self-tapping nut installation went from 90.2% to 98%. On final assembly work including folding center-console side covers and handling material boxes, the robot hit 90%.

Xiaomi is not pitching this as a consumer launch. "Xiaomi does not plan to develop the robot as a standalone product," per the company's stated position, and Lu said Xiaomi "aims to deploy the humanoid robot in smart manufacturing facilities, allowing the machine to take over certain manual operations," before folding it into the broader "human, car, and home" ecosystem that already links its factories, vehicles and household devices.

The Beijing debut lands in a crowded field. Physical AI startups pulled in $47.4B in the first half of the year, per AI Weekly's tracker.
