ChatGPT Will Now Just Buy Things for You
OpenAI and Stripe launched Instant Checkout inside ChatGPT this week, built on a new open standard they are calling the Agentic Commerce Protocol. US users can now ask for a product and complete the purchase from Etsy without leaving the chat. Shopify brands are coming soon. Your payment credentials stay with Stripe through a shared token system, so ChatGPT handles the shopping without touching your card details. The video "Meet the Stripe plugin for ChatGPT" picked up nearly 240,000 views in a few days, which suggests this is landing with a broad consumer audience.
Hundreds of People at OpenAI Are Reading Your ChatGPT Chats
Reporting this week revealed that OpenAI runs a contractor program, internally called Project Lily, where paid reviewers read real ChatGPT conversations and rate the model's replies. Accounts are anonymized, but conversation content is not, so personal details you share with ChatGPT can be seen by a human. This is on by default for free, Plus, and Pro accounts. You can disable it in your account settings under Data Controls. The story got heavy traction in Telegram AI channels and is prompting a wave of "how do I turn this off" searches.
Custom GPTs Are Going Away in December
OpenAI officially confirmed Custom GPTs will be retired on December 11 for Enterprise users, with new creation ending September 25. Other plans are expected to follow a similar path. OpenAI is migrating the feature to a plugins-based system. If you or your team built custom GPTs for repeated workflows, the migration turns a GPT's instructions into a plugin skill, but custom actions need to be rebuilt manually. Worth checking now rather than in December.
AI Study Apps Are Climbing the Education Charts
Turbo AI jumped 11 spots in the App Store Education charts this week. The app takes uploaded lectures, PDFs, slides, and videos and converts them into organized notes, flashcards, quizzes, and audio summaries. It is free to start and was updated as recently as late August. The note-taker category is moving broadly right now, with Plaud and Summary AI Note Taker both climbing the Productivity charts in the same window, which tracks with students heading into the fall semester and looking for tools that do the organizing work for them.
