What's trending in AI right now, from the app charts to the community feeds. Real links, our take.
Gemini 4 Argon is out and the how-to videos are flooding in
Google made Gemini 4 Argon publicly available on October 13, and this week it started rolling out to both Pro and Ultra subscribers inside the Gemini app. Tutorial videos on how to use it are pulling over 8,000 views an hour on YouTube right now. Argon is designed for longer multi-step tasks and is meant to answer with less hedging than earlier Gemini models. The app interface now has a toggle that switches between a standard chat mode and a task-and-agent mode in the same window. If you have a Gemini subscription and have not checked the app in a few weeks, the model picker has changed considerably.
AI homework apps are making big jumps up the charts
Solvely climbed 16 spots in Education this week, and Gizmo: AI Tutor climbed 12. Both let students photograph a homework problem and get a step-by-step explanation of how to reach the answer, which tends to be more useful than just getting the final number. There are quite a few apps competing in this category right now, which is part of why those jumps stand out. If you have school-age kids, these are likely the tools they are finding on their own.
DeepSeek quietly pushed a faster model this weekend
On October 18, DeepSeek released an updated build of V4.1-Flash, called V4.1-Flash-1017. The headline change is shorter outputs and faster task completion, which brings down per-query API costs without any price increase. A standard software engineering benchmark improved from 74% to 77%. DeepSeek also launched a Search API and a Fetch API at 75 cents per thousand requests alongside it. Developers already running V4.1-Flash get the improvement automatically, since the model ID routes to the new build.
People are reconsidering whether to connect Gmail to ChatGPT
OpenAI launched Dots, its always-on personal agent feature, on September 29 with direct connections to Gmail and Google Drive. A Reddit warning thread about connecting those accounts has been picking up steam this week. The background worth knowing: in September, Check Point Research showed a flaw that let a crafted prompt pull a user's Gmail data across to an attacker's session. OpenAI says that specific bug is patched, but its own help page explains that synced email content stays in an indexed copy for up to 30 days after you disconnect. That is worth reading before you decide to link your inbox.
AI image and video creation apps are climbing the charts
SeaArt AI jumped five spots in Graphics and Design this week. The app puts text-to-image generation, image-to-video tools, face swap, and AI character creation in a single mobile interface and has passed five million downloads on Android. It also has a community layer where users share and fine-tune models, which helps explain why people stick with it. If you make content for social platforms and have not looked at what mobile AI creative tools can do lately, SeaArt is one of the more complete options available right now.
