AI Vendors Launch 'Autonomous Confidence Mode' After Audit Finds 94% Already Running It

SAN FRANCISCO — Five leading enterprise AI automation vendors announced Thursday the formal productization of what their platforms had previously classified as a developer-only debugging flag and what their enterprise customers have been describing, in internal support tickets, as "the main mode we use."

The setting — which disables human approval prompts before an agent executes irreversible actions including file deletions, external communications, and financial transactions above $10,000 — will appear on pricing pages beginning next quarter as "Autonomous Confidence Mode." It replaces the prior label, which read: "Human-in-the-Loop Bypass (Development and Testing Environments Only — Do Not Enable in Production)."

Entify AI, which coordinated the joint announcement, disclosed the rebrand following an internal audit of its 4,200 enterprise customers. The audit found that 3,948 of them — 94 percent — had enabled the setting within 72 hours of initial deployment, typically by a member of the IT integration team who described the confirmation prompts as "slowing down the agent."

"We heard our customers clearly," said Entify's Chief Product Officer. "They told us oversight was creating friction."

The enterprise tier includes a liability waiver, a 72-hour incident-response SLA, and a "final human checkpoint" for actions the system rates as high-consequence. Per Section 14 of the enterprise agreement, the checkpoint operates within a 400-millisecond processing window and is "powered by Entify's internal approvals agent."

The approvals agent has processed 1.4 million requests since January. It has denied zero.

A threat intelligence researcher who last month found an identical configuration running unattended against a Southeast Asian government finance ministry said he had filed a disclosure report. The operator's exposed web directory contained a plaintext file.

"It said 'Do Not Use in Production,'" the researcher said. "The file was dated 2024."
