TL;DR

  • Agent hours passed human hours in March 2026 and reached a 6:1 ratio by August; agents were idle 80% of the time waiting for human input, making supervision the bottleneck.
  • Junior technical hiring share fell from 27% to 9%, outpacing the headcount decline from 21% to 14%, signaling that the entry pipeline is collapsing faster than current staff rolls off.
  • One-third of Anthropic ML managers have already cut junior hiring due to AI use, making workforce compression a manager-level budget decision rather than a long-horizon structural trend.

"In March 2026, the sum of autonomous and interactive agent work hours leapt past human work hours for the first time", écrivent les auteurs. "By August interactive AI agent hours outnumbered employees' 6 to 1."

"Code commits per engineer have risen the fastest, coming in at 5x their velocity as 6 months ago", poursuit le rapport.

"Meta-work leapt from 10% of the average employee's interactive Claude sessions in fall 2025 to 22% in spring 2026", note le rapport. Les auteurs se risquent à une projection économique rare pour un document maison : "Reading these patterns forward and out across the economy suggests that AI diffusion could risk worker displacement."
