TL;DR
- Google has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos plus 240,000 years of audio since 2023, making SynthID already one of the largest deployed content provenance systems.
- Four named partners (OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao, and Apple, forthcoming) have adopted SynthID watermarking, a coalition that did not exist at the tool's May 2025 restricted-access launch.
- The portal's own FAQ explicitly states 'This is not a general AI detector': a negative result cannot rule out AI generation, only confirm the absence of a SynthID watermark.
L'outil était jusqu'ici réservé à « select journalists, media professionals, and researchers » depuis Google I/O l'an dernier, et s'ouvre désormais à tout le monde.
« OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao also support SynthID, and OpenAI maintains its own site for checking content », écrit TechCrunch, et Apple est présenté comme sur le point de rejoindre.
L'entreprise affirme recevoir « 1 million requests to verify content every day ».
