OpenAI retire trois preuves mathématiques, erreur de signe

TL;DR

  • Only 42% of the 722 manuscripts carry machine-checked Lean proofs, making the majority unverifiable without the withheld model.
  • The sign error cascaded to two dependent manuscripts, both retracted, exposing fragility in AI proof chains that lack formal verification.
  • OpenAI withheld the model, prompts, and per-result compute data, violating three of the IAS advisory group's September 29 recommendations.

Une erreur de signe. Dans « Algebraicity of Weil classes on split abelian eightfolds », OpenAI reconnaît qu'elle « invalidates a stabilization-trace cancellation argument and the construction used by two dependent papers ».

Andrew Sutherland, mathématicien au MIT, résume le reproche de la communauté : « Until and unless they release the model and people can replicate their results, I think you should treat any claims about one-shotting problems with a single agent as unverified.

  1. Retraction Watch Lire →

Covers the community trust deficit, citing Cornell and MIT mathematicians' public skepticism and linking the retraction to the earlier Navier-Stokes announcement controversy.

Where errors are identified, we will work to correct them promptly and withdraw papers if no fixes can be found.
  2. The Decoder Lire →

Leads with the Association for Human Mathematics boycott call; includes Terence Tao on 'Math 2.0' and Scott Aaronson on AI's effect on the discipline's collaborative culture.

"Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done," describing the release as "not a demonstration of scholarship, but a demonstration of power."
  3. Implicator.ai Lire →

Documents OpenAI's non-compliance with four IAS advisory group recommendations from September 29 and reports only 42% of released papers carry Lean proofs.

Until and unless they release the model and people can replicate their results, I think you should treat any claims about one-shotting problems with a single agent as unverified.
