Frontier Lab Confirms AGI Achieved October 2025; Press Release Pending Final Legal Clearance

SAN FRANCISCO— A major artificial intelligence laboratory confirmed Tuesday that artificial general intelligence had been achieved internally on October 14, 2025, adding that a public announcement had been drafted shortly thereafter and was currently awaiting final clearance from Legal, External Communications, the Policy team, and the Board Disclosure Committee.

"We take announcements of this magnitude very seriously," said a company spokesperson. "We want to make sure the language is right."

According to internal documents, the announcement has now passed through eleven review stages. Policy returned it in December with a note requesting that the phrase "human-level intelligence" be replaced with language "less likely to attract additional regulatory scrutiny." In February, the Board Disclosure Committee asked whether the achievement qualified as material information requiring disclosure ahead of the company's fundraising round. Legal said yes. The fundraising closed in April at undisclosed terms. The announcement remained in Legal.

The model itself — referred to internally only as "[REDACTED]" — has been running in a test environment since October. Among its assigned tasks: reviewing its own press release for clarity and tone. It completed the review in fourteen seconds. Its suggested revisions were forwarded to Communications, who called the framing "clean" and said they would like Legal to take one more pass.

Asked whether an announcement could be expected before the end of the fiscal year, the spokesperson said the team was "targeting a near-term release window."

The company's next earnings call is Thursday. Analysts expect guidance on compute efficiency, revenue trajectory, and progress toward what the company's most recent investor letter described as "the ultimate goal."
