OpenAI disclosed it disrupted a Russian covert-influence cluster that used ChatGPT via VPNs to generate English-language social posts across Substack, Telegram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn, and to build a fake Israeli think tank called the International Burke Institute. 34 of 36 sampled IBI articles were plagiarized, some misattributed to Francis Fukuyama and Noam Chomsky, and the operation ran a 'sovereignty index' praising Russia while attacking France, Germany and the US.
