Stanford's Brynjolfsson Study: Entry-Level Employment in AI-Exposed Jobs Now 19% Below Peers, Up From 13% Last Year

An August 2026 update to Erik Brynjolfsson's Stanford 'Canaries in the Coal Mine' paper finds employment for 22-25-year-olds in the most AI-exposed occupations is now 19% below their peers in less-exposed fields, up from a 13% gap in the prior release. The team used a large ADP payroll sample and says the entry-level effects are 'real, persistent and widening,' with older workers so far spared.
