Healthwatch Warns 27 Unregulated NHS AI Scribes Are Mistranscribing Drugs and Diagnoses

Healthwatch England warned on Aug 31 that 27 different AI scribe products are already in use across the NHS with none regulated as a medical device, and it has logged patient-caught errors including a summary that flipped 'null demyelination' into an MS-style diagnosis and a scribe that swapped a prescribed drug for a similar-sounding one. The watchdog says errors are landing in patient records only to be spotted, if at all, by patients rather than clinicians, and the MHRA has still not classified the tools as medical devices.
