European Commission Adopts AI in Energy Strategic Roadmap with €175 Million Commitment

The European Commission adopted its Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and AI in Energy on June 3 as part of the European Tech Sovereignty Package, pledging more than €175 million for AI applications in grid balancing, demand forecasting, and smart meter analytics. The roadmap establishes interoperability mandates for AI-generated energy data and sets a 2028 target for coordinated AI-powered grid management across EU member states. It is the first formal EU policy instrument to directly fund and regulate AI deployment specifically in the energy sector.
