OpenAI Renews American Journalism Project Deal With $5M in New Funding and $3M in API Credits for Local News

OpenAI is committing an additional $5M in funding plus $3M in tech credits to the American Journalism Project over the next two years, on top of the original 2023 deal of $5M funds + $5M credits. Content chief Tom Rubin framed the partnerships as mission-driven rather than commercial, with AJP members using OpenAI credits to assess and deploy AI tools in local newsrooms.
