Ofcom Chair Ian Cheshire Launches Wide-Ranging Review to Retool Regulator for Big Tech and OSA Duties

Ofcom Chair Sir Ian Cheshire told the FT he is overseeing a wide-ranging review aimed at retooling the UK communications regulator for its expanded remit over Big Tech and enforcement of the Online Safety Act. The review is expected to shape how Ofcom polices AI-driven content moderation and recommender systems, on top of its published 2026/27 AI strategy that flagged autonomous moderation and network optimisation as priority risks.
