Amazon Bedrock adds xAI's Grok 4.6 with 500K context window

TL;DR

  • Grok 4.6 lands on Amazon Bedrock with a 500K-token context window and four configurable reasoning efforts (low, medium, high, xhigh).
  • Standard pricing is $2.20 input and $6.60 output per million tokens on In-Region and US Geo profiles; the Global profile drops to $2.00 and $6.00.
  • Two cross-Region inference profiles ship at launch: us.xai.grok-4.6 for US data residency and global.xai.grok-4.6 for throughput across all commercial AWS Regions.

Amazon Bedrock now carries xAI's Grok 4.6, AWS said in an August 19, 2026 announcement, giving customers a 500K-token context window and four configurable reasoning tiers (low, medium, high, xhigh), with low set as the default.

The Bedrock model card describes Grok 4.6 as "xAI's frontier model built for coding, agentic tasks, and knowledge work" with "a particular focus on long-running agents and more ambitious interactive work." Text and image inputs are supported; the model returns text only. Standard-tier pricing runs $2.20 per million input tokens and $6.60 per million output on In-Region and US Geo cross-Region inference, with cache reads at $0.55. The Global cross-Region profile is a step cheaper at $2.00 in, $6.00 out, $0.50 cache.

Two cross-Region inference profiles ship at launch: us.xai.grok-4.6, which keeps traffic inside US geography for data residency, and global.xai.grok-4.6, which AWS says routes "anywhere worldwide when there are no residency constraints." The runtime endpoint supports the Responses, Chat Completions, and Converse APIs, plus prompt caching and reasoning. Server-side tool use, structured outputs, intelligent prompt routing and application inference profiles are marked not supported.

It is the latest entry on our xAI tracker, following last week's story that SpaceX staff would 'parent' Grok trained on their work. On the Amazon side, this lands the same day AWS's parent dropped the $19.99 Alexa+ fee and made it free on Fire TV.
