Anthropic Adds 20 Partners to Its AI for Science Program

TL;DR

  • Anthropic added 20 scientific partners to its AI for Science program, including the Sloan Foundation, Simons Foundation, Schmidt Sciences and the US National Science Foundation.
  • Partners will distribute free Claude credits to their own researchers and also get a discounted Team plan for scientists.
  • Named projects on the roster include FlyWire at Princeton, AstroPath at Johns Hopkins, the Broad Institute's gnomAD, Columbia's LEAP and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Anthropic has added 20 scientific partners to its AI for Science program, among them the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Simons Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, the US National Science Foundation, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, the Francis Crick Institute and the Broad Institute. Each receives free Claude credits to pass through to its own researchers.

In its announcement, the company says "AI for Science began by supporting individual scientists. By partnering with institutions and foundations, we're now able to reach more researchers across many fields." Partners also get a discounted Team plan for scientists. The program first launched in May 2025.

The named projects on the roster hint at the span of disciplines Anthropic is backing. Princeton's FlyWire "produced the first complete wiring map of an adult fruit fly's brain." Johns Hopkins' AstroPath "uses calibration methods from astronomical surveys to image tumors cell by cell." The Broad Institute's gnomAD "pools DNA data from over 800,000 people into an open reference of human genetic variation." Columbia's LEAP covers Earth system science, the Space Telescope Science Institute brings astrophysics, and the Centre for Population Genomics in Australia, Gladstone Institutes, EMBL and Imperial College London's Department of Life Sciences round out the biosciences bench. Anthropic says scientists are using Claude "to generate hypotheses, design experiments, swiftly analyze complex data, and communicate findings."

Anthropic does not publish the dollar value of the credit pool, or say how each partner will decide which researchers receive what. The expansion lands two days after Anthropic's acquisition of one-person startup Mithril Medicine and a parallel drug-pipeline deal with six pharma partners, one of 355 Anthropic items in our tracker over the last 90 days.
