Anthropic reopens AI interview study with public transcripts

Anthropic reopened its "What Do You Want from AI?" study on September 29 and will keep it open through October 6, 2026, according to the company's research page. The interview runs about 15 minutes and is available to Free, Pro, and Max Claude users whose accounts are at least two weeks old.

The new element is a publication option. Participants can now opt to make their entire interview public. Anthropic says it will publish the complete transcript with associated country data while excluding the Claude account name and email. It also flags a risk it does not solve: "Someone could use AI to combine small details...to work out who a participant is."

A December 2025 round of the same study drew responses from 81,000 people and, per Anthropic, shaped the Anthropic Institute's research agenda that was "presented at the World Economic Forum to international leaders." The company's pitch to participants is plain: "Your voice can help guide us, other AI labs, and policymakers."

Anthropic states the caveat itself. "Participants in this study will all be people who use Claude, which is not a representative sample of the public," the FAQ reads, adding that the subset opting into public release "may differ from those who don't." No individual researchers are named in the announcement.
