Apple lines up 7-inch smart home hub, new Apple TV and HomePod mini

The interesting part of the latest Bloomberg report from Mark Gurman is not that Apple has a smart home hub, an updated Apple TV 4K and a refreshed HomePod mini nearly ready to ship. It is that all three are reportedly waiting on the same thing, the overhauled AI-powered Siri that Apple promised for 2026 and has already slipped once.

The headline device is a hub with a roughly seven-inch square display, a built-in camera and facial recognition. It is designed to sit on a HomePod mini-style speaker base or mount on a wall, run on an A18 chip, and figure out who has walked up to it so it can surface content specific to that person. Gurman reports the earliest realistic launch window is September, and only if the new Siri is genuinely finished.

The supporting cast is more prosaic but arguably more consequential for existing customers. According to MacRumors' summary of the reporting, the Apple TV 4K moves from the A15 to the A17 Pro and picks up Apple's N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, while the HomePod mini jumps from the S5 to the S9. Nothing dramatic externally, but internally enough headroom to actually run Apple Intelligence features on both. Gurman also mentions the Siri Remote may be refreshed in some form, without detail.

The honest caveat is that this is single-sourced rumor reporting, not an Apple announcement, and the pricing and the privacy model for on-device facial recognition are not spelled out in the reporting. Nor is the fate of the next-generation robotic variant, a tabletop HomePod with a display on a thin swiveling arm that can tilt and rotate 360 degrees to face whoever is speaking, which Gurman has previously placed anywhere from late 2026 to 2027.

If the hub does ship on schedule, it is Apple's first real answer to the Echo Show and Nest Hub category, and it lands or dies on whether the new Siri is good enough to justify the whole bet. Watch the Siri readiness signal more closely than the hardware.
