Australia's Draft 'My Feed, My Way' Bill Forces Meta, TikTok and Google to Offer Non-Algorithmic Feeds

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's government released draft 'My Feed, My Way' legislation on Sept 8 as part of Australia's broader Digital Duty of Care push, requiring Meta, TikTok, Google and other major platforms to notify every user and let them switch between algorithmic feeds and a chronological feed of only accounts they follow. Under-16 users would get personalized algorithms and endless scrolling disabled by default. Non-compliance can draw penalties up to A$109.2M ($79M), enforced by eSafety, with a targeted-consultation draft released Tuesday ahead of a parliamentary bill this year.
