DoorDash CEO: Only 'Several Hundred' Orders So Far From AI Agents
TL;DR
- DoorDash CEO Tony Xu told the Q3 2026 call that third-party AI agents including Muse, Instinct and Fo have placed only 'several hundred orders in total' so far.
- DoorDash says it completes an average of 3 million deliveries daily, making agent-sourced orders a negligible share of volume.
- Amazon is blocking personal AI agents while Walmart has 'laid out a red carpet' for them, per TechCrunch's reporting.
DoorDash CEO Tony Xu told analysts on the company's Q3 2026 earnings call that third-party AI agents including Muse, Instinct and Fo have placed only "several hundred orders in total" so far — a trivial sliver against the roughly 3 million deliveries the company says it completes each day, TechCrunch reports.
"I would say that this [using agents to order] is something that is still a very dynamic area," Xu said. "What I mean by that is if you look at where AI agents are today, we're seeing maybe several hundred orders in total from some of these third-party agents."
The company sits between two opposing playbooks. Amazon has been blocking personal agents from its platform, while Walmart "has laid out a red carpet for them in order to snag some business from its competitors," per TechCrunch. DoorDash itself is building a first-party stack: a text-to-order agent launched in September, a CLI agent in July, and a chatbot called Ask DoorDash from June that lets users place orders through prompts and photos.
It lands amid a stretch of agent-commerce coverage in which operators keep telling investors adoption is real but still shallow.
